Maxis, one of the prominent telco in Malaysia is believed to be launching their own digital bookstore targeted to Malaysian users very soon. An app both for iOS and Android has been published, and Maxis has also bought the domain name ebuuk.com.my which will be used as the main page for the service.
Maxis ebuuk allows users to browse through a wide selection of free and paid digital books, directly using iPad, Android device or even the web. The payment process appears to be powered by Maxis own backend, which requires those who intend to buy books via ebuuk to have a registered Maxis mobile number. However to browse through free digital books, it can be done easily without any registration.
Maxis targets to launch the service to the masses in coming weeks. Other than Maxis, for the time being, E-Sentral offers a variety of digital books in English and Bahasa Malaysia through iPad for local users.
