In the past there are a few traditional games that has been made for smartphone platform, such as Congkak & Guli. Recently, a Malaysian developer has introduced another traditional game – galah panjang – to the iOS platform, named Tapiroo which is being sold at $0.99
The game uses characters that are synonymous with Malaysia – Orang Utan and Tapir Malaya. Orang Utan will be controlled by player to block Tapir Malaya from passing through in the towards the next box, just like the traditional game galah panjang.
In terms of design and interface, praise must be given for the clean interface and giving the game a Malaysian village environment. The controls are pretty easy and can be learnt in few moments, where the player has to control Orang Utan and place it in front of Tapir Malaya.
However, on other factors it doesn’t seem addictive. This because it doesn’t provide levels like other games (Angry Birds, Where’s My Chicken etc) and the gameplay will just become faster and focused in collecting the highest score. At the moment, there’s no feature to compare the player scores with their friends and the inability to share the marks via social network, gives less motivation to get higher marks.
